Macaná is a special kind of neighborhood, called a barrio, located in the town of Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 803 people lived there.
History of Macaná
After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the United States by Spain. This happened under an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, found that 1,025 people lived in the Macaná barrio at that time.
