Maceo is a small community in Daviess County, Kentucky, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a defined area for gathering population data, but it doesn't have its own local government. In 2020, about 404 people lived there.
History of Maceo
The community of Maceo was started by people who had been freed from slavery right after the U.S. Civil War.
In 1890, a railroad company set up a station and a post office in the area. They named it Powers Station, Kentucky, after a person named Col. J.D. Powers. However, this name often caused confusion with another post office nearby.
To fix this, in 1897, the Post Master Edwin P. Taylor suggested a new name. The post office was renamed Maceo to honor Antonio Maceo Grajales. He was a brave general from Cuba.
