Machrie (Scottish Gaelic: Am Machaire) is a small village on the beautiful Isle of Arran in Scotland. It's located on the west coast, right by Machrie Bay. This quiet village is part of the Kilmory area.
Machrie is famous for its ancient Standing Stones and the mysterious King's Cave. People believe the famous Scottish hero, Robert the Bruce, once used this cave!
Machrie Moor: Ancient Mysteries
Machrie Moor is a super old place with amazing stone structures. These structures were built by people living here up to 4,500 years ago! Imagine building something that lasts that long.
Stone Circles and History
On Machrie Moor, you can find six special groups of stones called the Machrie Moor Stone Circles. There's also another one nearby called Moss Farm Road Stone Circle. These standing stones are very old, dating back about 2,500 years.
But wait, there's more! In the 1980s, archaeologists dug up the area. They found even older things hidden underground. They discovered fancy wooden buildings and stone circles that were built even earlier in history. It's like finding clues to a really old puzzle!
