Early Life and Education
Maciej Stuhr was born in Kraków, Poland. Before becoming an actor, he studied psychology at the famous Jagiellonian University and graduated in 1999.
Afterward, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps and study acting. He went to the National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków and finished his studies in 2003.

Even before he finished acting school, Maciej was becoming well-known. He was great at imitating other famous Polish actors. He also started his own comedy group called Po Żarcie, where he wrote and performed his own funny skits.
Some of his early famous roles were as Kuba Brenner in the comedy Chłopaki nie płaczą (Boys Don't Cry) and as Piotr in Decalogue X, a film by the world-famous director Krzysztof Kieślowski.
Becoming a Star
In 2006, Stuhr's fame grew when he co-hosted the 19th European Film Awards in Warsaw with the French actress Sophie Marceau. Two years later, in 2008, he won the Zbigniew Cybulski Award, a special prize given to the best young actor in Poland.
Since 2008, he has been a member of the Nowy Teatr (New Theatre) in Warsaw, a modern and respected theater group.
In 2013, he won the Polish Film Award for Best Actor for his serious role in the movie Aftermath. This showed he could be a star in both comedies and dramas.
Personal Life
Maciej Stuhr comes from an artistic family. His father is the well-known actor Jerzy Stuhr, and his mother, Barbara Kóska, was a violinist. He has a younger sister named Marianna. His family's ancestors moved to Poland from Lower Austria in 1879.
In 2015, he married Katarzyna Błażejewska. He has two children.
Stuhr is also known for supporting the LGBT community in Poland and works with groups that promote equal rights.
