Randriamananjara Radofa Besata Jean Longin was born on October 31, 1956. He is from Antananarivo, Madagascar. This talented musician is known by his stage name, Madagascar Slim.

He is a Canadian-Malagasy folk and blues guitarist. He plays amazing guitar music. Madagascar Slim is a member of two cool music groups. These are Tri-Continental and African Guitar Summit. He also performs on his own. Plus, he often plays with blues singer Ndidi Onukwulu.

His Musical Journey

Madagascar Slim moved to Canada in 1979. He went there to study English and accounting. He attended Seneca College. While studying, he also played music. He was part of a folk group called La Ridaine.

He loves playing the guitar. Two famous guitarists really inspired him. These were Jimi Hendrix and B. B. King. They made him want to become a guitarist himself.

Awards and Achievements

Madagascar Slim is a very successful musician. He has won the Juno Award three times! The Juno Awards are big music awards in Canada.

He won "World Music Album of the Year" in 2000. This was for his solo album called Omnisource. He won this award again in 2005 with African Guitar Summit. In 2001, he won "Roots & Traditional Album of the Year". This award was for his work with the band Tri-Continental.
