Mahmoud Kamal Al-Mawas is a professional footballer from Syria. He was born on January 1, 1993. Mahmoud plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder. He currently plays for Al-Shorta in the Iraqi Premier League. He also plays for the Syria national team.

Mahmoud Al-Mawas started playing for Syria's national team in 2012 when he was 19 years old. He made history by becoming the first non-Iraqi player to be the top scorer in the Iraqi Premier League. This happened in the 2021–22 season when he scored 22 goals. He was also named the 'Player of the Season' for the 2023–24 season while playing for Al-Shorta.

Mahmoud's Club Journey

Starting at Al-Karamah

Mahmoud Al-Mawas began his football career at Al-Karamah in Syria. In 2008, he went to the UAE to play for Al-Ain on a loan for 18 months. He joined Al-Karamah's main team in June 2009. In his first season, he helped his team win their first trophy, the 2009–10 Syrian Cup.

Loan to Al-Riffa

In January 2013, Mahmoud moved to Al-Riffa in the Bahraini Premier League. This was a loan deal for six months.

Playing for Al-Arabi

In July 2013, Mahmoud permanently joined Al-Arabi, a club in the Kuwait Premier League. In his first year there, he won the 2013–14 Kuwait Federation Cup. The next season, he helped Al-Arabi win the 2014–15 Kuwait Crown Prince Cup.

Loan to Al-Faisaly

On June 30, 2015, Mahmoud was loaned to Al-Faisaly, a team in the Saudi Pro League. He scored his first goal for them on August 28 in a game they lost 2–1 against Al-Taawoun. However, his loan ended early on September 15, and he went back to Al-Arabi.

Second Loan at Al-Riffa

In October 2015, Mahmoud went back to Al-Riffa for another loan spell that lasted the whole season.

Time at Al-Muharraq

In July 2016, Mahmoud moved to Bahrain again to join Al-Muharraq.

Joining Umm Salal

In January 2017, Mahmoud joined Umm Salal, a Qatari club. He joined them during the middle of the 2016–17 Qatar Stars League season. He scored his first goal for Umm Salal on February 15 in a 3–1 win against Lekhwiya.

On August 17, 2018, Mahmoud scored two goals in a 4–1 victory over Al-Ahli. He scored another two goals later that season against Al-Shahania, though his team lost 5–2. On August 23, 2019, he scored two goals again in a 2–2 draw against Al-Rayyan.

Moving to Europe with Botoșani

On November 24, 2020, Mahmoud moved to Europe to play for Botoșani in Romania. He played his first game for Botoșani on December 11, 2020, in a 1–1 draw against Astra Giurgiu. He scored his first goal for the club on January 27, 2021, in a 2–1 loss against Academica Clince. In the very next match on January 31, he scored the only goal against Hermannstadt, securing a 1–0 win.

Success at Al-Shorta

On August 21, 2021, Mahmoud joined Al-Shorta, an Iraqi club. He has had great success there, winning four league titles in a row: 2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25. In his first season, he was the league's top scorer with 22 goals. In his third season, he was named the 'Player of the Season' for the Iraq Stars League 2023–24. He also helped his team win the 2023–24 Iraq FA Cup.

Mahmoud's International Career

Mahmoud Al-Mawas has played for Syria in many important tournaments. He played in the 2012 Summer Olympics Asian qualifiers. He also played in the 2008 AFC U-16 Championship in Uzbekistan.

He scored his first goal for the Syria on September 8, 2015. This was during a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Cambodia in Phnom Penh. In December 2018, he was chosen to be part of the Syrian team for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

On June 4, 2021, Mahmoud scored his first international hat-trick (three goals in one game) against Maldives. Syria won that 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match 4–0. On March 25, 2025, he played his 100th international match for Syria. This was a 2–0 win over Pakistan during the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualification.
