Mahmoud Kamal Al-Mawas (Arabic: مَحْمُود كَمَال الْمَوَّاس; born 1 January 1993) is a talented Syrian professional footballer. He plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder. Currently, he plays for Al-Shorta in the Iraqi Premier League. He is also a key player for the Syria national team. Mahmoud made his first international appearance for Syria in 2012, when he was 19 years old.

Mahmoud Al-Mawas made history in the Iraqi Premier League. He became the first non-Iraqi player to be the top scorer in the league. This happened in the 2021–22 season, where he scored 22 goals. He was also named the 'Player of the Season' for the 2023–24 season while playing for Al-Shorta.

Club Career Highlights

Starting with Al-Karamah

Mahmoud Al-Mawas began his football journey with Al-Karamah in Syria. In 2008, he had a special chance to join Al-Ain, a club in the UAE, for 18 months on loan. He then joined Al-Karamah's main team in June 2009. In his very first season with the senior team, he won his first trophy, the 2009–10 Syrian Cup.

Loan to Al-Riffa

In January 2013, Mahmoud moved to Al-Riffa in the Bahraini Premier League. This was a short loan for six months.

Playing for Al-Arabi

In July 2013, Mahmoud Al-Mawas made a permanent move to Al-Arabi, a club in the Kuwait Premier League. In his first year there, he helped the team win the 2013–14 Kuwait Federation Cup. The next season, he won another trophy, the 2014–15 Kuwait Crown Prince Cup, with Al-Arabi.

Short Loan to Al-Faisaly

On June 30, 2015, Mahmoud was loaned to Al-Faisaly, a club in the Saudi Pro League. He scored his first goal for them on August 28, but his loan ended early on September 15. He then went back to Al-Arabi.

Another Loan to Al-Riffa

In October 2015, Mahmoud joined Al-Riffa again. This time, it was for a full season on loan.

Moving to Al-Muharraq

In July 2016, Mahmoud Al-Mawas moved to Bahrain to play for Al-Muharraq.

Time with Umm Salal

In January 2017, Mahmoud joined Umm Salal, a club in Qatar. He joined them during the middle of the 2016–17 Qatar Stars League season. He scored his first goal for the club on February 15 in a 3–1 win.

He scored two goals in one game (a "brace") twice in the 2018–19 Qatar Stars League season. First, on August 17, 2018, in a 4–1 win. Then, he scored another brace against Al-Shahania. On August 23, 2019, he scored two more goals in a 2–2 draw against Al-Rayyan.

Playing in Europe with Botoșani

On November 24, 2020, Mahmoud Al-Mawas moved to Europe. He joined Botoșani, a club in Romania. He played his first game for Botoșani on December 11, 2020. He scored his first goal for the club on January 27, 2021. Just a few days later, on January 31, he scored the only goal in a match to help his team win.

Success with Al-Shorta

On August 21, 2021, Mahmoud joined Al-Shorta, a club in Iraq. With Al-Shorta, he achieved great success. He helped them win three league titles in a row: in 2021–22, 2022–23, and 2023–24.

In his first season, he was the top scorer in the league with 22 goals. In his third season, he was named the 'Player of the Season' for the Iraq Stars League. He also helped his team win the 2023–24 Iraq FA Cup.

International Career for Syria

Mahmoud Al-Mawas has proudly represented his country, Syria, many times. He played in the 2012 Summer Olympics Asian qualifiers. He also took part in the 2008 AFC U-16 Championship in Uzbekistan.

He scored his first goal for the Syria national team on September 8, 2015. This goal came during a World Cup qualification match against Cambodia.

On June 4, 2021, Mahmoud scored his first international hat-trick (three goals in one game). This happened in a World Cup qualification match against Maldives, which Syria won 4–0.
