Makoto Kakegawa's Football Journey
Makoto Kakegawa was born in Kumagaya, Japan, on May 23, 1973. He loved football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Tokai University, he started his professional career.
Starting Out at Bellmare Hiratsuka
In 1996, Makoto joined Bellmare Hiratsuka, a team in the J1 League. At first, he didn't play many games. This was because another great goalkeeper, Nobuyuki Kojima, was usually chosen.
In 1997, Makoto got more chances to play. He played in 9 matches that year. This happened when Kojima left the club to play for the Japanese national team.
Towards the end of 1998, Kojima left the club for good. This was due to the team's money problems. In 1999, Makoto had to compete with Seiji Honda for the goalkeeper spot. He played in 10 matches that season. Unfortunately, the team finished last and had to move down to the J2 League.
Playing for Vissel Kobe
In 2000, Makoto moved to a new team, Vissel Kobe. In his first year there, he didn't play much. Jiro Takeda was the main goalkeeper.
But in 2001, Makoto became the team's regular goalkeeper. He played many games for Vissel Kobe over the next few years. However, in 2005, Vissel Kobe also finished last in the J1 League. This meant they were also moved down to the J2 League.
Final Years at Shimizu S-Pulse
In 2006, Makoto joined Shimizu S-Pulse. This was another team in the J1 League. However, he didn't get to play much here either. Other goalkeepers like Yohei Nishibe and Kaito Yamamoto were chosen more often.
Makoto Kakegawa played his last season in 2009. After that, he decided to retire from professional football. Throughout his career, he played a total of 147 league games.
