Nobuyuki Kojima (小島 伸幸, Kojima Nobuyuki, born January 17, 1966) is a Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a goalkeeper for many years. He also played for the Japan national team.
Kojima played for several clubs during his career. These included Bellmare Hiratsuka, Avispa Fukuoka, and Thespa Kusatsu. He represented the Japan national team in four matches. He was also part of the team for the 1998 World Cup.
Playing for Football Clubs
Kojima started playing football when he was in the 5th grade. He became a goalkeeper when he was in high school. After finishing university in 1988, Kojima joined Fujita Industries. This team later became known as Bellmare Hiratsuka. They played in Japan's top football league at the time.
By 1994, he became a regular player for the team. He was an employee of Fujita Industries, but he became a professional footballer in January 1995.
At the end of 1998, Bellmare had money problems. Because of this, they let go of many of their main players. Kojima was one of them. He then moved to Avispa Fukuoka.
In 2002, he moved again to Thespa Kusatsu. This team played in a lower league at the time. Kojima played for them and also helped coach the team. He played a big part in helping the team move up to higher leagues. First, they reached the Japan Football League, and then the J2 League.
His last professional game was on December 3, 2005. He played against Consadole Sapporo. In January 2006, he announced that he was retiring from playing football.
Playing for Japan
In January 1995, Kojima was chosen to play for the Japan national team. This was for a tournament called the 1995 King Fahd Cup. However, he did not play in any games during that tournament.
He played his first game for Japan on June 6, 1995. This was against Brazil in a competition called the Umbro Cup. He played a total of four games for Japan until 1996.
Kojima was also part of the squad for the 1996 AFC Asian Cup. He was also chosen for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. In both tournaments, he was a reserve goalkeeper. This means he was ready to play if the main goalkeeper couldn't. However, he did not play in any games during these tournaments.
After His Football Career
After retiring from playing, Kojima became an advisor for Thespa Kusatsu. He also works as a football expert for a TV channel called NHK. He started this role in February 2010.
