Makoto Sunakawa (砂川 誠, Sunakawa Makoto, born August 10, 1977) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder for several clubs, most notably Kashiwa Reysol and Consadole Sapporo.

Football Career
Makoto Sunakawa was born in Narashino, Japan, on August 10, 1977. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey in 1996.
Early Days at Kashiwa Reysol
Sunakawa joined his hometown club, Kashiwa Reysol, in 1996. He made his first big game appearance in the J.League Cup that same year. For the first few years, he didn't play much.
However, from 1999, he became a more important player. He often played as an attacking midfielder. In 1999, his team, Kashiwa Reysol, won the J.League Cup! They also finished in third place in the top Japanese league, the J1 League, in both 1999 and 2000. By 2002, he played less often for the team.
Time at Consadole Sapporo
In 2003, Sunakawa moved to Consadole Sapporo. This club had just moved down to the second division, J2 League. Here, he quickly became a regular player, known for his skills as an attacking midfielder.
Winning the J2 League
In 2007, Sunakawa helped Consadole Sapporo win the J2 League championship! This meant they were promoted back to the top league, the J1 League, for the 2008 season.
Challenges and Comebacks
The 2008 season was tough for Consadole Sapporo in the J1 League, and they were moved back down to J2 after just one year. From 2009, Sunakawa faced more competition for his spot from younger players. However, he still played in many games.
In 2012, he helped the club get promoted to the J1 League again! Makoto Sunakawa also made history by becoming the first player to play for Consadole Sapporo for more than 10 years. Even though the team went back to J2 the next year, he continued to play many matches until 2014.
Final Season and Retirement
In 2015, Sunakawa faced an injury that kept him from playing. In July 2015, he moved to FC Gifu, another J2 League team. He played 10 games for them before deciding to retire from professional football at the end of the 2015 season.
Throughout his career, Makoto Sunakawa played a total of 495 league games and scored 41 goals. He was a dedicated midfielder who helped his teams achieve success.
