Malika's Early Life and Studies
Her Family and Heritage
Malika Louback was born in Djibouti, a country in East Africa. She has two sisters. Her first name, Malika, means "queen" in Arabic. Her last name, Louback, means "lioness" in the Afar language, which is spoken in Djibouti.
Malika's mother, Moumina Houmed Hassan, is an important person in Djibouti. Since 2016, she has been the Minister for Women and the Family. Before that, she worked for groups that help people and for the World Health Organization. Malika's father is an engineer.
Becoming an Engineer
Following her father's career path, Malika earned three college degrees. She studied industrial engineering and maintenance engineering. She also got a bachelor's degree in physics and another degree in materials science engineering.
Malika moved to Lyon, France, in 2013 to start her studies. She spent six years there learning about engineering. After finishing her degrees, she moved to Paris to work as a model. Her two sisters also live in France.
Her Journey into Modeling
How She Started Modeling

Malika always dreamed of being both an engineer and a fashion model. She wanted to have many skills. She believes her engineering studies help her pay close attention to details in modeling. She gets her fashion ideas from her mother, grandmother, and other women from Djibouti.
After finishing her third degree, Malika contacted IMG Models through their website. They called her back right away, and she signed with them in September 2019.
Walking the Runway and Magazine Covers
In the spring/summer 2020 fashion season, Malika walked in shows for famous brands. These included Jil Sander in Milan, Yves Saint Laurent in Paris, Chanel, and Hermès.
Her first big magazine cover was for Vogue Paris in September 2020. This was a special moment because she was the first Djiboutian woman to be on that cover. During the 2020 lockdown in France, Malika stayed in a small apartment in Paris with roommates. She even did some modeling shoots using FaceTime.
A Top Model Today
In 2021, Malika became the official "face" of the fashion brand Loro Piana. Since 2022, she has been named one of the top 50 models by Models.com. She has also received two nominations for Model Of The Year (MOTY) awards. She was nominated for 2021 Model of the Year and 2020 Breakout Star.
Malika has appeared on many other magazine covers. These include Vogue Adria (April 2024), Elle France (September 2023), V Fall (2022), Numero (April 2022), Vogue France (February 2022), and Vogue Japan (September 2021). She continues to be a leading model in the fashion world.
