Mamoru Miyano (宮野 真守, Miyano Mamoru, born June 8, 1983) is a Japanese actor and singer. He is super famous for his voice roles in many popular anime shows and video games. Some of his most well-known characters are Light Yagami in Death Note, Rintaro Okabe in Steins;Gate, and Setsuna F. Seiei in Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

Mamoru Miyano has won several awards for his amazing voice acting. He also has a successful music career, releasing many songs and albums. He has even performed big concerts in Japan and other countries!

Meet Mamoru Miyano

Mamoru Miyano was born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. When he was young, he joined a theater group called Himawari Theatre Group. This helped him learn about acting and performing.

As he grew up, he also found a love for music. He was inspired by Japanese music groups like CHEMISTRY and Exile. This led him to explore his own musical style.

His Amazing Career

Starting Out: Voice Acting and Music

Mamoru Miyano began his acting journey early. In 2001, he started voice acting in a live-action TV show called Caitlin's Way. He also became the Japanese voice for Riku in the popular video game Kingdom Hearts. He continued to voice Riku in many other Kingdom Hearts games.

His first role in an anime series was in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children - Light & Dark. Soon after, he voiced Kiba in Wolf's Rain. One of his biggest early roles was voicing Light Yagami in the hit anime Death Note. This role made him very well-known and earned him nominations for "Best Lead Actor" and "Best New Actor" at the first Seiyuu Awards.

In 2007, Mamoru Miyano started his singing career. His first song, "Kuon," was released by King Records. It was even used as a theme song for an anime series! He also sang a duet called "Fight" with Romi Park.

Becoming a Star

In 2008, Mamoru Miyano voiced Setsuna F. Seiei, the main character in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. This role, along with his performance as Light Yagami, helped him win the "Best Voice Actor" award at the 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair. He also won his first Seiyuu Award for his roles in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Kōtetsu Sangokushi.

He continued to voice many iconic characters, including:

  • Zero Kiryu and Ichiru Kiryu in Vampire Knight
  • Death The Kid in Soul Eater
  • Tamaki Suoh in Ouran High School Host Club
  • Rintaro Okabe in Steins;Gate
  • Ling Yao in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

  • Osamu Dazai in Bungo Stray Dogs

His music career also grew. He released his second single, "Discovery," which was used as an opening theme for a video game. He then released more singles and his first album, Break, in 2009. After his album came out, he went on his first live concert tour!

Continued Success and New Roles

Mamoru Miyano also became the voice of Ultraman Zero, a popular superhero character. He voiced Ultraman Zero in several movies like Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie and Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. Ultraman Zero has continued to appear in many Ultra Series shows, including Ultraman Z in 2020.

In 2010, he released his second album, Wonder, and went on another concert tour. He also voiced Dent in the Pokémon anime series.

In 2013, Mamoru Miyano made history! He became the first male voice actor to perform a solo concert at the famous Nippon Budokan arena in Japan. This was a huge achievement! He continued to release successful albums and DVDs of his live tours.

In 2015, he achieved another milestone by having a number one single on the Oricon daily chart, which is a big deal in Japanese music. In 2017, he held his first solo concert outside of Japan, performing in Taiwan.

More recently, in October 2023, he voiced Epsilon in the anime miniseries Pluto. In December 2024, he voiced Michael Kaiser in the second season of the anime series Blue Lock. As of June 2025, Mamoru Miyano joined the talent agency Ken On.
