Becoming a TV Host
In 2008, MTV Taiwan offered Mandy a job as a VJ. A VJ is like a host for music and entertainment shows. She hosted their entertainment news program and a music show called "MTV FUN Music." On these shows, she got to interview many local music artists. Later, in 2012, Mandy also became a host for the entertainment news website Apple Daily Taiwan.
Her Acting Roles
Mandy Wei started acting in 2008 with a supporting role in the TV drama ToGetHer (愛就宅一起). She played a character named "Luo Sha Sha," who was the leader of a group of "mean girls" at a university. She also appeared in other popular dramas, like Material Queen (拜金女王) in 2011.
Her big chance came in 2012 when she was cast in the hit drama Love, Now (真愛趁現在). She played "Dr. He Cai Rong." Even though her role was small at first, viewers really liked her chemistry with another actor, Bobby Dou. Because of this, her role became much bigger, and she became a main supporting character.
After becoming more recognized from Love, Now, Mandy got her first main role in a TV drama called Deja Vu (回到愛以前). The show became very popular and was number one in its time slot after the first episode.
Because Deja Vu was so successful, Mandy was offered another main role in 2014. This time, it was for the drama Say Again Yes I Do (再說一次我願意). In this show, she played "Shu Xin Kui," a woman who marries a man she just met, then divorces him, and later falls in love with him again. For this role, Mandy bravely cut her long hair very short, which was a big change! This drama was also a big success, ranking first in its time slot for every episode.
In 2015, Mandy worked with the same TV company again, starring in a romantic comedy with Jasper Liu. She played "An Xi," a kind and strong woman who stands up against unfairness. Since her hair was still short, she wore hair extensions for scenes where her character was a younger university student.
In 2016, Mandy played the main role in the drama Swimming Battle alongside Kingone Wang. She played "He Yu Die," a character who had lost her memories.
