Rainie Yang Cheng Lin (Chinese: 楊丞琳) is a popular singer, actress, and TV host from Taiwan. She was born on June 4, 1984. Rainie started her career in 2000 as a member of a girl group called 4 in Love. After the group ended in 2002, she began a very successful solo career. Her first album, My Intuition, came out in 2005.
Besides singing, Rainie is also known for hosting the TV show Guess from 2002 to 2007. She has also starred in many TV dramas. Some of her famous roles were in Meteor Garden (2001), Devil Beside You (2005), Why Why Love (2007), and Hi My Sweetheart (2009). For her role in Hi My Sweetheart, she won the Golden Bell Award for Best Actress.

Early Life and Beginnings
Rainie Yang grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. Her father's family came from Guangdong, China. At home, she spoke Cantonese. When she was 13, Rainie had to start working because her father's business had problems. This led to her parents getting divorced. She went to Hwa Kang Arts School, which teaches performance arts.
Rainie's Entertainment Career
Starting Out: 2000–2005
Rainie Yang began her career in 2000. She joined a Taiwanese girl group called 4 in Love. In the group, she was known by her stage name, Rainie. The group was not very famous in the music world. After the group broke up in 2002, Rainie kept working in entertainment. She became a TV host for shows like Guess from late 2002 to early 2007.
She also acted in supporting roles in many Taiwanese TV dramas. One of these was the very popular show Meteor Garden and its mini-series Meteor Rain. In 2005, she got her first main role as Qi Yue in the drama Devil Beside You. She starred alongside Mike He. In the same year, she released her first album, My Intuition. This album included popular songs like "Intuition" (the theme song for Devil Beside You) and "Ideal Lover." The album sold over 160,000 copies in Taiwan and more than 1 million copies across Asia. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Foundation in Taiwan (RIT).
Growing Success: 2006–2008
In 2006, Rainie released her second album, Meeting Love. This album sold over 150,000 copies in Taiwan and 1.2 million copies in Asia. On January 8, 2007, Rainie filmed her last episode of Guess. She left the show to focus more on her singing and acting.
Rainie wanted to be seen as a serious actress. She acted in the film Spider Lilies with Isabella Leong. After this film, Rainie returned to her sweet image. She took on the main role in the drama Why Why Love in 2007. She starred with Mike He and Kingone Wang. Her third album, My Other Self, came out on September 7, 2007. It featured the theme song "Lacking Oxygen" from Why Why Love.
On April 23, 2008, Rainie had an accident while filming the drama Miss No Good. She fell down the stairs and was taken to the hospital. Doctors found she had a spinal bruise. Miss No Good, starring Rainie and Will Pan, was very successful when it aired in late 2008. During this time, she also released her fourth album, Not Yet a Woman. This album included songs like "Too Much Trouble" and "Take Me Away" from Miss No Good.
New Albums and Concert Tours: 2009–2013
In 2009, Rainie starred in To Get Her with Jiro Wang and George Hu. She also filmed The Child's Eye, a horror movie, in Thailand. Later, she filmed the Taiwanese drama Hi My Sweetheart with Show Lo. After promoting Hi My Sweetheart, Rainie released her fifth album, Rainie & Love...?, on New Year's Day 2010. Because her dramas were popular overseas, Rainie also entered the J-pop music scene in 2010. She released a Japanese version of her hit song "Intuition."
Rainie released her first collection album, Whimsical World Collection, on April 23, 2010. It had three new songs, 35 older songs, and 15 music videos. On October 22, 2010, she won Best Actress at the 45th Golden Bell Awards. This was for her role as Chen Baozhu in Hi My Sweetheart.
In 2011, Rainie released her sixth album, Longing for.... This album included the song "We Are All Silly." In 2012, Rainie starred in a short romantic film called Heartbeat Love with Show Lo. On August 17, 2012, she released her seventh album, Wishing for Happiness. Her second concert tour, Love Voyage, began on December 14. On August 23, 2013, Rainie released her eighth album, Angel Wings.
Recent Works: 2014–Present
In 2014, Rainie joined EMI Taiwan, a record label that is now part of Universal Music Taiwan. Her ninth album, A Tale of Two Rainie, was released on December 12, 2014. That same year, she starred in the Chinese drama series Love at Second Sight.
On September 30, 2016, her tenth album, Traces of Time in Love, was released. This album was nominated for three awards at the 28th Golden Melody Awards. Rainie has now been nominated for all three major entertainment awards in Taiwan: the Golden Bell Awards (TV), the Golden Horse Awards (film), and the Golden Melody Awards (music). In 2016, Rainie also starred in the Taiwanese TV series Life Plan A and B.
On October 9, 2016, Rainie Yang spoke out in support of the LGBTQIA+ community and equal rights for same-sex marriage. She stated that love is not limited by gender and that she would like to continue playing LGBTQIA+ roles in the future. On November 27, 2019, Rainie released her eleventh album, Delete Reset Grow.
On November 5, 2020, Rainie released her twelfth album, Like a Star. The next day, she started her Like a Star World Tour. In 2024, she took part in the Chinese reality show Singer.
Rainie's Personal Life
Rainie Yang married Chinese singer-songwriter Li Ronghao. They started dating in December 2014. On July 11, 2019, Li Ronghao announced that Rainie had accepted his marriage proposal on his 34th birthday. On September 17, 2019, Rainie and Li Ronghao confirmed they had officially registered their marriage in China.
