Manish Mehrotra is a very famous chef from India. He is known around the world for his amazing new Indian dishes. He is the Culinary Director for Indian Accent Restaurants in Delhi, Mumbai, and New York. He also works at Comorin in Gurugram.

Manish is known for mixing real Indian flavors with cooking styles and ingredients from Asia and the West. This makes his food truly special and new.

A famous writer, Vir Sanghvi, once said that Manish Mehrotra is the most exciting modern Indian chef in the world. He cooks for people who really know Indian food, and he always impresses them.

Manish started his cooking journey in Mumbai. He worked at the Thai Pavilion of the Taj Group of Hotels. In 2000, he joined Old World Hospitality. There, he made Oriental Octopus in Delhi a very popular place. He has worked with this company for over twenty years. During this time, he opened many restaurants and improved his cooking skills.

Manish travels a lot between his Indian Accent restaurants. He also goes to events all over the world. He loves his job and knows a lot about different ingredients. Chef Rick Stein inspires him because he makes simple but delicious recipes. Manish is a great role model for young chefs today.

Early life and learning

Manish Mehrotra was born in Patna, Bihar. He spent most of his childhood there. He went to St. Xavier's High School, Patna. Later, he studied at New Era Public School in New Delhi. He chose to study hotel management at the Institute of Hotel Management, Mumbai. He really enjoyed learning about food during his studies.

His cooking journey

After finishing college in 1996, Manish Mehrotra joined the Taj Group of Hotels. He trained at the Thai Pavilion restaurant in Mumbai. There, he learned a lot about Pan-Asian cooking for four years.

In 2000, Manish moved back to Delhi. He joined Old World Hospitality. He worked at Oriental Octopus, a restaurant at Habitat World. In just six months, he became the head chef there.

While at Oriental Octopus, Manish traveled a lot in South Asia. He visited countries like China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. He learned many new skills and became an expert in South East Asian food.

In 2006, Manish went to London. He opened a Pan Asian restaurant there for Old World Hospitality. It received great reviews. He stayed in the UK for three years before coming back to India.

In 2009, Manish's career changed. He started trying new things with Indian food. This led him to become a leader in 'Modern Indian Cuisine'. In March 2009, he became the first chef at Indian Accent in The Manor Hotel, New Delhi.

Indian Accent offers a fresh take on Indian food. The restaurant in New Delhi opened in 2009. It became famous for its new ideas in Indian cooking. The menu mixes old Indian dishes with global cooking styles.

Indian Accent in New York opened in 2016. It quickly became very popular. Many magazines and websites called it one of the best restaurants.

In 2018, Manish created a menu for Comorin in Gurugram. This restaurant also won many awards. It is now one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

In 2023, Indian Accent opened in Mumbai. Manish created a special menu for this new restaurant. He made sure it would be perfect for people in Mumbai.

Indian Accent in New Delhi has won many awards. It has been on the World’s 50 Best list for many years. It was also named the Best Restaurant in India by Trip Advisor. Time Magazine also listed it as one of the 100 Great Destinations in the World. Manish himself has won many awards throughout his career.

Life outside the kitchen

Manish Mehrotra lives in New Delhi. He lives with his mother and his daughter, Adah. He likes watching movies and cricket games. He also enjoys cooking for Adah, who loves prawns and is a big food fan.

On TV and in movies

Besides being a great chef, Manish Mehrotra is also a well-known TV personality. When he was a child, he acted in two films. These were 'Doosri Dulhan' (1983) and "Apna Bhi Koi Hota" (1984).

His cookbook

Manish Mehrotra wrote the ‘Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook’. Penguin Books first published it. The book has beautiful pictures by Rohit Chawla. It was launched at the Jaipur Literature Festival in 2016. Two versions of the book have been published.

In 2023, a paperback version of the cookbook came out. It was published by Hachette Books. Manish’s recipes have also appeared in many other cookbooks, magazines, and newspapers.
