Manor Park railway station is a train station in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. It serves the suburb of Manor Park. This station is part of the Hutt Valley Line, which is a section of the longer Wairarapa Line.

The station is about 23.7 kilometers (14.7 miles) northeast of Wellington. Metlink's electric trains, called "Matangi" FP class, stop here. These trains travel to Wellington and Upper Hutt. Manor Park station has an island platform, which means the platform is between two train tracks.

Manor Park is one of only three stations on the Hutt Valley line located west of the Hutt River. The other two stations are Petone and Ava.

Station History and Development

How Manor Park Station Began

In 1954, the Hutt Valley Branch became the main railway line. Because of this change, the section of the old line between Melling and Haywards was closed. The western part of this old line then became a single-track line called the Melling Branch.

A brand new station was built at Haywards, which is now known as Manor Park. This new station was placed where the new railway line from Pomare connected with the existing line to the north. The original Haywards railway station had first opened a long time ago, on 15 December 1875. It opened at the same time as Belmont railway station.

Modern Upgrades and Parking

The station received a new "park and ride" car park to make it easier for people to leave their cars and catch the train. A special pedestrian overbridge was also built to connect to this car park.

These improvements were part of a big project. This project created a new interchange southwest of the station. This interchange connected State Highway 2 and State Highway 58 over Haywards. Work on this important project started in 2015 and was finished two years later, in 2017. The whole interchange cost about $42 million.
