Pomare railway station is a train station in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. It's a stop on the Hutt Valley Line, which is part of the longer Wairarapa Line. Metlink's electric trains, known as "Matangi" trains, use this station.
The station has an island platform. This means the train platform is in the middle, with train tracks on both sides. Pomare station serves the local area of Pomare and is the closest train stop for people living in Stokes Valley.
History of Pomare Station
The train line that goes through Pomare was built in stages. The section to Waterloo opened in 1927. Later, it was extended to Haywards (which is now called Manor Park) between 1946 and 1954.
From March 1, 1954, this line became the main route for trains going to Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa region. This happened when an older section of the track was closed. Pomare station itself opened a little later, on August 9, 1954.
In 2010, the station got 42 new "park and ride" car parks. These were especially helpful for people who drive from Stokes Valley to the station to catch the train.
