Manuel Ibáñez's Early Life
Manuel Ibáñez Martínez was born on October 17, 1946. He was the youngest of four children and the only boy in his family. His father was a day laborer who left the family soon after Manuel was born. Because his mother did not have a job, Manuel had to help his family earn money from a young age. His uncle, Domingo, helped the family a lot. He was like a father figure to Manuel when he was growing up.
Starting a Career
After his mother passed away in 1968, Manuel started working as a photojournalist. He worked for a news agency that his friends had started. He was sent to report on the student movement that year. But soon, he realized he wanted to be an actor instead.
He decided to study at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He entered a poetry competition and won a scholarship! This scholarship allowed him to study acting at the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in Mexico City.
Becoming a Comedy Star
Manuel Ibáñez became one of the biggest names in Mexican comedy. He starred in many popular films. Some of these include Llegamos, los fregamos y nos fuimos, Los peseros, and Lagunilla mi barrio. He has worked with many well-known actors. These include Carmen Salinas, Luis de Alba, and Rafael Inclán.
