Mara Bergman is an American author, poet, and editor. She is well-known for writing many wonderful books for children. Mara was born in Bronx, New York, on a special day – February 29, which only happens in a leap year! She grew up in Wantagh, Long Island, and later moved to England in 1983.

Mara's Journey to Writing

Mara studied at the University of the State of New York at Oneonta. During her studies, she spent a year in London, England. After moving to England permanently, she started working for Walker Books, a company that publishes children's books. This experience gave her a great understanding of the world of children's literature.

When her three children, Marissa, Eva, and Jonathan, were young, Mara decided to start writing her own picture books. She wanted to create stories that children would love. Her hard work paid off, and she has won several important awards for her books.
