About Marcela Rodríguez

Marcela Rodríguez was born in Mexico City. She learned to play the guitar and how to compose music from a famous teacher named Leo Brouwer from Cuba. She also studied for a short time in London. After that, she returned to Mexico City to continue her studies with Julio Estrada and Ma. Antonieta Lozano.

Marcela Rodríguez's music has been performed in many countries. These include the United States, Venezuela, Spain, and even places like Moldavia and Greece. Her opera "Las Cartas de Frida" was even performed in Heidelberg, Germany. She has also taught music classes in Mexico and Spain. She taught at the Catholic University of Colombia and the Catholic University in Washington.

Her music often makes you think of nature, human feelings, and different cultures. Even though she learned most of her music in Mexico, she says her music doesn't sound like typical Latin American music. She mixes ideas from many different cultures. This gives her music a special and unique sound. European culture, especially Spain, has influenced her music a lot. She once said, "Spain is part of my life."

One of Marcela Rodríguez's pieces is called Asilah. This music combines Arabian and Spanish cultures. The way the music changes in this piece shows the journey from northern Morocco, which is close to Spain, to the south of Morocco. The music slowly changes from a Spanish style to an Arabic style. Asilah is similar to her recent work, El Horizonte. El Horizonte is also inspired by natural landscapes.
