Marcia Young's Early Life
Marcia Young was born in Toronto, Canada. When she was very young, she moved to Jamaica and lived there with her grandparents. She learned a lot from them during her early childhood.
At the age of six, Marcia returned to Toronto to go to school. She later studied journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University, which was previously known as Ryerson University. This is where she learned the skills she would need for her exciting career in news.
Marcia Young's Journalism Career
Marcia Young started her career in sports radio at a station called The Fan 590 in Toronto. She then worked behind the scenes as a researcher and production helper for a lifestyle TV show on the Life Network.
In 1998, Marcia joined CBC Television. She began as a researcher for The National, which is CBC Television's main evening news program. After that, she became a local TV news reporter in different cities like Toronto, Saskatoon, and Regina.
Reporting Big News Stories
Marcia returned to Toronto to work as a TV anchor and reporter at Citytv. During this time, she reported on several major events. These included the sad news of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, the SARS crisis (a health emergency), and the Iraq War.
In 2004, Marcia became an anchor for Canada at Five on CBC Radio. She has also hosted other popular radio shows like Main Street (in Prince Edward Island), The World at Six, and World Report. She has even been a guest host on As It Happens, another well-known CBC Radio show.
Marcia was the very first host of The World This Hour. She has also hosted The World This Weekend and The World at Six. For many years, she was the weekend anchor for World Report. In November 2022, she became the main weekday anchor for the show, which is her current role.
Marcia Young's Charity Work
Marcia Young cares a lot about helping others. She is a strong supporter of child literacy, which means helping kids learn to read and write, both in Canada and in other countries.
She often hosts events for community and charity groups in the Greater Toronto Area. Some of these organizations include Design Hope Toronto, the Osu Children's Library Fund, and the Jamaican Canadian Association Scholarship Awards.
