Marco Donadel, born on April 21, 1983, is an Italian football coach and a former player. He used to play as a midfielder. As of July 2025, he is the interim head coach for Major League Soccer club CF Montréal.

Marco Donadel's Football Journey
Marco Donadel started his football career in Italy. He played for several well-known clubs before moving to North America. He also represented Italy in youth international tournaments.
Playing for Milan's Youth and Senior Teams
Donadel began his journey in the youth system of Milan from 1998 to 2002. During this time, he helped his youth team win the Torneo di Viareggio tournament in 1999 and 2001. After his success in the youth ranks, he joined the senior team.
He made his first appearance for Milan on March 4, 2001. He came into a Serie A game against Parma as a substitute. In the next season, he also played in the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia matches. Donadel played only a few games for Milan's senior team. In July 2002, he was loaned to Lecce to gain more experience.
Moving to Parma and Sampdoria
In June 2003, Donadel moved to Parma. He played 24 games for them. Milan later bought back his rights. In the 2004–05 season, he was loaned to Sampdoria for a short period. After that, he joined Fiorentina in January 2005.
Time with Fiorentina
Donadel's loan spell at Fiorentina was successful. Because of this, he was signed permanently by the club. He became a regular player for coach Cesare Prandelli. Prandelli had worked with Donadel before at Parma and knew his skills. In June 2007, Donadel signed a new contract with Fiorentina, staying until June 2011. He played 184 games for Fiorentina, scoring 4 goals.
Playing for Napoli and Verona
On June 24, 2011, Donadel signed a four-year contract with Napoli. However, he did not play many games for Napoli, appearing in only four league matches. In the 2013–14 season, he was loaned to Verona. There, he became a regular starter for the team.
Joining Montreal Impact
After his loan with Verona ended, Donadel tried out for the Major League Soccer team, Montreal Impact. He officially signed with them on December 1, 2014.
He scored an amazing goal from 30 yards out in a 3–0 win against Columbus Crew on July 11, 2015. This goal was voted the MLS goal of the week. On October 25, 2015, he helped set up one of Drogba's goals in a 2–1 win against Toronto FC. This victory gave Montreal a home advantage in the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs. Donadel played 67 games for Montreal Impact, scoring 3 goals. He left the club on June 22, 2018.
International Appearances for Italy
Marco Donadel also played for Italy's national youth teams. He was the captain of the Italy under-21 team from 2004 to 2006. He played 31 games for them and scored 1 goal.
He helped the team win the European Under-21 Football Championship in 2004. Donadel also won a bronze medal with Italy at the 2004 Summer Olympics football tournament.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Donadel started his coaching career.
Assistant Coach Roles
On December 17, 2021, Donadel became an assistant coach for Spartak Moscow. He worked under head coach Paolo Vanoli. He later returned to Italy. In December 2024, Donadel went back to Montreal. He joined Laurent Courtois's coaching staff at CF Montréal as an assistant coach.
Head Coaching Opportunity
On March 24, 2025, Donadel was named the interim head coach of CF Montréal. This happened after the previous coach, Laurent Courtois, was let go. The team had a tough start to the MLS season, earning only one point in five matches.
