Margo Kitsy Brodie (born April 12, 1966) is a very important judge in the United States. She is the chief United States district judge for a court in New York called the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. This means she is the main judge in charge of that court. She became the chief judge on February 1, 2021.

Margo Brodie's Early Life and School
Margo Kitsy Brodie was born in St. John's, a city in Antigua. She was born Margo Kitsy Williams.
She went to St. Francis College in Brooklyn. In 1988, she earned a special degree called a Bachelor of Arts. After that, she studied law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She earned her law degree, called a Juris Doctor, in 1991.
Her Path to Becoming a Judge
Margo Brodie worked in different legal jobs before becoming a judge. These jobs helped her gain a lot of experience.
Working as a Lawyer
From 1991 to 1994, Ms. Brodie worked for the New York City Law Department. This is a group of lawyers who work for the city. Then, she worked at a law firm called Carter, Ledyard & Millburn from 1994 to 1999.
In 1999, she joined the office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Here, she was an assistant United States attorney. This means she helped the government with legal cases. She held many important roles there. She was a Deputy Chief and then Chief of the General Crimes Section. She also worked as a Counselor and Deputy Chief in the Criminal Division.
Becoming a Federal Judge
On June 7, 2011, President Barack Obama chose Margo Brodie to be a judge. She was nominated for a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. This seat became open when Judge Allyne R. Ross retired.
Before she could become a judge, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a meeting about her. This happened on September 7, 2011. The committee decided she was a good choice. On February 27, 2012, the United States Senate voted to approve her. Most senators, 86 of them, voted yes.
She officially became a judge on February 29, 2012. Later, on February 1, 2021, she became the chief judge of the court.
