María Eugenia Chellet (born in 1948) is a Mexican artist. She started with photography, then moved to mixed media, and now mostly creates performance art. Her art explores ideas about women and what it means to be feminine. She often uses herself in her artwork, acting out roles like women from the Bible, classical paintings, or even characters from old TV shows and ads. María Eugenia Chellet is a member of the important art group called the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana.

About María Eugenia Chellet

María Eugenia Chellet, also known as Maru, was born in Mexico City in 1948. She went to primary school in the city of Querétaro.

She earned her first university degree in information science. This was from the Universidad Iberoamericana. Later, she got a master's degree in visual arts. She studied at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. She also learned photography at the City Literary Institute in London.

Her Artistic Journey

When María Eugenia Chellet first started her career, she worked as a model for other artists. She felt this helped her understand herself better. It also helped her explore her imagination.

She has shown her art in many solo exhibitions. These include Bonitas hasta la muerte (Beautiful Until Death). This was a performance art piece in 2012. She also had Irresistibles y coladas (Irresistible and Sneaky). This show featured montages and collages in 1996. Another show was Metamorfosis (Metamorphosis) in 1996. Her exhibition La maja soy yo (I Am the Maja) included montages, collages, and video in 1989.
