Early Life and Education

Marie-Denise Douyon was born in Haiti in 1961. When she was young, her family left Haiti in 1964 because of the government at the time. They later moved to Morocco in 1966.

Marie-Denise studied visual arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York. This famous school is located in Manhattan, New York City. After finishing her studies, she returned to Haiti in 1986. Since 1991, Marie-Denise Douyon has lived and worked in Montreal, Quebec.

Her Art and Career

Marie-Denise Douyon's art has been displayed in many important places. Her work has been shown in museums and galleries in Canada, France, the United States, and the Caribbean. In 2004, her art was even featured at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. This was part of a big celebration for Haitian independence. UNESCO is a special part of the United Nations that promotes peace and culture.

Douyon often uses old or discarded items in her artwork. She does this to make people think about important issues. These issues include global warming and how much stuff we buy and throw away.
