About Marie-Denise Douyon
Marie-Denise Douyon was born in Haiti in 1961. When she was young, in 1964, her family moved from Haiti to find a safer place to live. They eventually settled in Morocco in 1966.
Her Education and Return to Haiti
Marie-Denise studied visual arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. After a change in government in Haiti in 1986, Marie-Denise went back to her home country. In the early 1990s, she faced difficulties and was held by the authorities in Haiti. She was released on February 7, 1991, as part of a special release for many people who had been held. Since 1991, Marie-Denise Douyon has lived and worked in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Her Artistic Career
Marie-Denise Douyon's art has been displayed in many places. You can find her work in museums and galleries in Canada, France, the United States, and the Caribbean. In 2004, her art was even shown at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. This was part of a big celebration for the 200th anniversary of Haiti's independence.

Marie-Denise often uses old or discarded objects in her art. She does this to help people think about important issues like global warming and how much we buy and throw away. Her artwork also shows her unique background, combining different cultures and her African heritage.
