About Marina's Life and Music
Early Life and First Steps in Music (1989–2008)
Marina Łuczenko was born in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. When she was two years old, her family moved to Poland. Her grandparents were originally from Poland. The family settled in a city called Stalowa Wola.
Marina's father, who was also a musician, noticed her singing talent early on. She went to a music school where she learned to play the piano. She also finished high school in Warsaw.
As a child, Marina took part in many singing contests and TV music shows. She often won these competitions. Her professional career began in 2000. She appeared in a TV play called Ballada o zabójcach. In 2003, she sang the song "Sen" in Poland's national final for the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2004, Marina played the main role of Juliet in a play called Romeo and Juliet. In 2007, she competed in a contest called New Wave. She finished third and won $20,000. She was also offered a music deal, but she turned it down. She received a special prize of $50,000 from one of the organizers, Alla Pugacheva.
In 2008, Marina joined the Polish version of Dancing with the Stars, called Taniec z gwiazdami. She and her dance partner finished tenth.
Becoming Well-Known (2009–2012)
In 2009, Marina played the character Amanda in the Polish TV series 39 i pół. She recorded four songs for the show's soundtrack.
Her first song, "Glam Pop", came out in 2010. It became very popular on the radio in Poland. That year, she won an Eska Music Award for Best Debut. She also released her second song, "Pepper Mint". Marina also appeared in another Polish TV series called Usta usta.
In 2011, Marina started working on her first music album. The album was called Hardbeat and was released in November 2011. Music critics liked it. Before the album, she released the song "Electric Bass". The second song from the album, "Saturday Night", came out in 2012. Marina was nominated for six VIVA Comet Awards in 2011 and 2012. These nominations included Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for Hardbeat.
In 2012, she became an ambassador for the clothing brand Levi's in Poland.
New Music and Comeback (2013–Present)
In October 2013, Marina had trouble singing while recording new music in London. Doctors found a small growth on her vocal cord. Because of this, she had to stop singing for a while. In May 2014, she had surgery to remove the growth.
Marina's comeback song, "On My Way", was released in April 2016. This song was the first one from her second album. She also sang on James Arthur's song "Let Me Love the Lonely" in 2016. This song became very popular in Poland and was certified gold.
Marina released her second album, On My Way, on November 17, 2017. The album has ten songs in English. One song, "I Do", was written by her husband, Wojciech Szczęsny. Another song, "Lay My Body Down", was co-written with James Arthur. "Takin' Ya Rock Out" and "Hiding in the Water" were also released as songs from the album. The last song from the album, "Complete", came out in August 2018.
In September 2019, Marina returned to her role in the TV show 39 i pół for a new series called 39 i pół tygodnia. She released her third album, Warstwy, in December 2020. This album reached number 50 on the Polish music charts. It featured four popular songs: "News" with Kabe, "Nigdy więcej" with Young Igi, "Skandal (Odbijam)" with Smolasty, and "Nie prowokuj". "News" was certified Gold, and "Nigdy więcej" was certified Platinum. In 2021, Marina worked with Meggie on the song "Lip Gloss". In 2022, she recorded "This Is the Moment" to support Poland in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Marina's Family Life
In 2013, Marina started dating the famous football player Wojciech Szczęsny. They got engaged on July 7, 2015, and were married on May 21, 2016. They have a son named Liam, born on June 30, 2018, and a daughter named Noelia, born on July 3, 2024.
In December 2022, Marina shared that she had a health issue that turned out to be not serious.
