Playing in Spain: Racing Santander

In the year 2000, Mario Regueiro moved to Spain and joined Racing de Santander. He quickly made a big impact on the team. In his last season with Racing Santander, which was the 2004–2005 season, he was the second-highest goal scorer for the team. He scored eight goals, helping his team avoid being moved down to a lower league.

Time at Valencia and Loan Spells

In June 2005, Regueiro joined another La Liga team, Valencia CF. He joined them for free, which is called a free transfer in football. At Valencia, he was often used as a substitute player. During the 2006–2007 season, he had a serious knee injury that kept him from playing most of the time. After that season, he also became a Spanish citizen.

In the summer of 2008, Valencia loaned him to Real Murcia, a team that had just been moved down to a lower league. After that, Valencia loaned him again, this time to Aris Thessaloniki F.C. in Greece for one year. However, just a month later, he was allowed to leave Valencia for free and signed a three-year contract with the Greek team. But he only stayed for one season before returning to his home country and playing for Nacional again.
