Marion is a small city in Guadalupe County, Texas, in the United States. It became an official city by 1941. In 2020, about 1,034 people lived there. Marion is part of the larger San Antonio area.
History of Marion
The city of Marion got its name from a person named Marion Dove. Her grandfather, Joshua W. Young, owned a large farm called a plantation. A railway line, the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway, was built through his land in 1877. This led to the town being named after Marion Dove.
Where is Marion?
Marion is located in Guadalupe County. A main road, Farm to Market Road 78, goes right through the middle of the city. If you travel west on this road, you'll reach San Antonio in about 26 miles (42 km). If you go east, you'll get to Seguin, which is the county seat of Guadalupe County, in about 12 miles (19 km).
The city of Marion covers a total area of about 2.0 square kilometers (0.78 square miles), and all of it is land.
Marion is a small community with a few local businesses. You can find a hardware store, a meat market, gas stations, and several restaurants. The local school is a 3A school, and their mascot is the Marion Bulldogs!
