Marisol Espinoza Cruz (born July 30, 1967) is a politician from Peru. She served as the First Vice President of Peru from 2011 to 2016, during the time Ollanta Humala was president. She was also a Congresswoman, representing the Piura area, from 2006 to 2019.

Marisol Espinoza's Early Life and Schooling
Marisol Espinoza was born in Piura, Peru. She went to San José de Tarbes school in her hometown. From 1985 to 1991, she studied information science and liberal arts at the University of Piura. Her main focus was on journalism.
She gained experience working at different media companies. In 1988 and 1989, she was a trainee editor for a local newspaper called La Industria. In 1991, she worked as a reporter for RBC Channel 11. From 1991 to 1992, she edited international news for América Televisión. In December 1992, she became the head of the Economics section for the newspaper El Tiempo in Piura.
Marisol Espinoza also continued her education. She took part in special programs at Florida International University and Northwestern University. From 1999 to 2000, she returned to the University of Piura to earn a master's degree in economics.
Marisol Espinoza's Journey in Politics
In January 2005, Marisol Espinoza joined the Union for Peru political party. She was chosen to be a Congresswoman for Piura in the 2006 election. This meant she would represent her region in the Peruvian Congress.
By July 2009, she became the spokesperson for the Nationalist group in Congress. In the 2011 presidential election, she ran alongside Ollanta Humala. She was his running mate, meaning she would become the First Vice President if he won. They ran as part of the Peru Wins political group.
On June 5, 2011, Ollanta Humala was elected president, and Marisol Espinoza became the First Vice President. They won with 51.5% of the votes. She officially started her role on July 28, 2011.
In September 2015, Espinoza decided to leave the Nationalist Party. A month later, she also left the Peru Wins group in Congress. For the 2016 Congressional election, she ran as an independent candidate. She was part of the Alliance for the Progress of Peru group.
