Mark D. Blount was a professional basketball player from the United States. He played as a center for four different teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA). His career in the NBA lasted from 2000 to 2009.

Mark Blount's Basketball Journey
Mark Blount started his high school basketball career in Summerville, South Carolina. He played for Summerville High School during his first year. Later, he moved to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. For his final year of high school, he attended Dobbs Ferry High School in Dobbs Ferry. There, he was named "Mr. Basketball" for Westchester County.
After high school, Mark played college basketball at the University of Pittsburgh. In the 1997 NBA draft, the Seattle SuperSonics picked him as the 54th player overall. Before joining the NBA, he spent three seasons playing in smaller American basketball leagues.
Joining the Boston Celtics
On August 1, 2000, the Boston Celtics signed Mark Blount. He joined the team as a free agent. In his first season with the Celtics, he led the team in blocks. He made 76 blocks that season. This was the most blocks by a Celtics rookie since Kevin McHale in the 1980–81 season.
During the 2003–04 NBA season, Mark had a great year. He averaged 10.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.29 blocks per game. He played about 29.3 minutes in each game. One of his best games was on March 1, 2004, against the Orlando Magic. In that game, he scored 28 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. After this successful season, Blount signed a new contract with the Celtics.
Life After Basketball
When Mark Blount's basketball career ended in 2010, he started new ventures. He bought properties for investment in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He also opened several Auntie Anne's pretzel shops in that area. As of 2018, he lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He continued to invest in real estate. Mark Blount also wrote a book called My First Triple Double.
