The first Auntie Anne's began as a small stand. It was at the Farmer's Market in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, in 1988. Soon after, a second location opened in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The company started letting other people open their own Auntie Anne's stores. This is called franchising. The first franchise store opened in Middletown, Pennsylvania. By 1992, Auntie Anne's celebrated opening its 100th store! This store was in the Granite Run Mall in Media, Pennsylvania.
In 1995, Auntie Anne's opened its first store in a train station. This was at Penn Station in New York City. That same year, the first international Auntie Anne's store opened in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In October 2006, the main office for Auntie Anne's moved. It went from Gap, Pennsylvania, to downtown Lancaster. They bought an old post office building. It was built in 1927 and still has its original features.
In November 2010, a company called Focus Brands bought Auntie Anne's. This company is now known as GoTo Foods.
