Judge Mark Bomani (born January 2, 1932 – died September 10, 2020) was an important lawyer and judge from Tanzania. He was the second person to serve as the Attorney General of Tanzania, a top legal job, from 1965 to 1976. After that, he continued his work as a judge and had his own law firm.

Serving as Attorney General

Mark Bomani made history as the first Attorney General of Tanzania who was born in the country. He held this important position from 1965 to 1976. The Attorney General is the main legal advisor to the government. They help make sure laws are followed and fair.

Helping Nations Find Peace

After working for the Tanzanian government, Bomani joined the United Nations (UN). The UN is an organization where countries work together for peace. From 1976 to 1990, he was a senior legal advisor for the UN.

He played a key role in helping Namibia become independent from South Africa. He also helped create a new legal system for Namibia. Mark Bomani was very good at international talks. He was a chief helper to two famous leaders: Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and Nelson Mandela of South Africa. He assisted them during peace talks for the first Burundian Civil War. This shows how much he worked for peace and justice around the world.
