Mark McClelland's Musical Journey
Mark McClelland was born on March 30, 1976. He grew up and went to Sullivan Upper School. In 1994, he started studying at the University of Dundee.
Starting Bands: From Shrug to Snow Patrol
During his first year at university, Mark helped create a band called Shrug. He formed it with Michael Morrison and Gary Lightbody. Michael Morrison left the band in 1995. Then, a new drummer named Jonny Quinn joined. The band changed its name to Polar Bear. Later, they became known as Snow Patrol.
Mark graduated from university in 1998 with excellent grades. Just a few weeks later, Snow Patrol released their first album. It was called Songs for Polarbears, which was a nod to their old band name. This album came out through Jeepster. In 2001, the band released their second album, When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up.
During this time, Mark also played with other musicians. He was part of The Reindeer Section, a Scottish music group. His bandmate Gary Lightbody started this group. Mark also played on albums for Iain Archer and Cut La Roc.
Leaving Snow Patrol and New Projects
Mark McClelland left Snow Patrol in 2005. This happened after their album Final Straw became very successful in 2003. He left because of different ideas about the band's music. Even though he helped write all 12 songs on Final Straw, he felt his contributions were not fully recognized.
After leaving Snow Patrol, Mark started a new band called Little Doses. He formed this band with his girlfriend (now wife), Kirsten Ross, who is the singer. Michael Branagh, a drummer, also joined them. Little Doses has not been very active since 2016.
