Markel Brown (born January 29, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for Pallacanestro Trieste in Italy's top basketball league, the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

High School Basketball Star
Markel Brown went to Peabody Magnet High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. In his final year, he was an amazing player. He scored about 32 points in each game. He also grabbed 10 rebounds, made five assists, and had three blocks and three steals.
Because of his great performance, he was named the 2010 Louisiana Player of the Year. He also earned the title of Mr. Basketball from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Experts like Rivals.com saw him as a top player. They ranked him as the 37th best shooting guard in the country. He was also the 137th best player overall in 2010.
College Career Highlights
Markel Brown played college basketball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He showed his skills right from his first year.
Freshman Season (First Year)
As a freshman, Markel led his team in blocked shots. He had 33 blocks, which was a record for a guard at OSU. It was also the fifth-highest number of blocks by any freshman at the school. He played in 34 games and started 10 of them. On average, he scored 6.4 points and grabbed 2.5 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Season (Second Year)
In his second year, Markel was known for his exciting dunks. CollegeBasketballTalk on NBCSports.com even called him the "Dunker of the Year." He played in 33 games, starting 26. He improved his game, averaging 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds. He also had 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
Junior Season (Third Year)
By his junior year, Markel was a key player. He earned several awards, including being named to the All-Big 12 second team. He reached a big milestone by scoring over 1,000 points in his college career. He also became only the second player in his school's history to have 200 assists, 100 steals, and 75 blocked shots. He started all 33 games and averaged 15.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
Senior Season (Fourth Year)
In his final college season, Markel was again named to the All-Big 12 second team. He started all 34 games he played. He averaged 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. He also continued to get about one steal and one block per game.

Markel Brown began his professional career in 2014. He has played for several teams in the NBA and in different countries.
Starting in the NBA (2014–2016)
On June 26, 2014, Markel was picked by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA draft. He was the 44th player chosen overall. Soon after, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He joined the Nets for the NBA Summer League and signed with them in July.
He played in 40 games for the Nets in his first season. He even started 29 of those games. On February 23, 2015, he had a great game against the Denver Nuggets. He scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, helping the Nets win. On March 29, he scored a career-high 17 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played in two playoff games for the Nets.
In the 2015–16 season, Markel continued with the Nets. On March 5, 2016, he scored a new career-high of 23 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After his time with the Nets, he briefly signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in September 2016 but was later waived.
Playing Overseas (2016–Present)
After his time in the NBA, Markel Brown moved to play basketball internationally.

Markel's Personal Life
Markel Brown is the son of Damian and Antoinette Brown. His grandmother, Jerri Mae Eggins, has been a very important person in his life. He also has two sisters, Tara and Moryia. Markel has faced challenges in his life. In 2007, his uncle, David Eggins, who was like a father figure to him, passed away while trying to help others.
