DeMarious Markel Brown (born January 29, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for Pallacanestro Trieste in Italy's top league, the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

High School Basketball Star
Markel Brown went to Peabody Magnet High School in Alexandria, Louisiana. In his senior year, he was amazing! He averaged 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. He was also named the 2010 Louisiana Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball.
Experts like Rivals.com thought he was a top player. They listed him as the 37th best shooting guard in the nation in 2010.
College Career Highlights
Markel played college basketball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Freshman Year (First Year)
As a freshman, Markel was great at blocking shots. He led his team with 33 blocks. This was the most blocks ever by a guard at Oklahoma State. He played in 34 games and averaged 6.4 points per game.
Sophomore Year (Second Year)
In his second year, Markel was named the "Dunker of the Year." He averaged 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Junior Year (Third Year)
By his junior year, Markel was a key player. He was named to several important teams, like the All-Big 12 second team. He also scored over 1,000 points in his college career. He was only the second player in his school's history to have 200 assists, 100 steals, and 75 blocked shots. He averaged 15.3 points per game.
Senior Year (Fourth Year)
In his final college year, Markel was again named to the All-Big 12 second team. He averaged 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA: Brooklyn Nets (2014–2016)
Markel Brown was chosen by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2014 NBA draft. He was the 44th pick overall. Soon after, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He joined the Nets for the 2014 NBA Summer League and signed with them.
In his first season, he played in 40 games for the Nets. He even started in 29 of them. On February 23, 2015, he had a great game against the Denver Nuggets. He scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. On March 29, he scored a career-high 17 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played in the NBA playoffs with the Nets.
In his second season with the Nets (2015–2016), he scored a career-high 23 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 5, 2016.
Playing Overseas and in the G-League
After his time with the Nets, Markel played for several teams around the world and in the NBA's G-League.
- Khimki (2016–2017): He signed with the Russian club Khimki for a season.
- Oklahoma City Blue (2017–2018): He joined the Oklahoma City Blue, a G-League team.
- Houston Rockets (2018): Markel also had a short time with the Houston Rockets in the NBA.
- Darüşşafaka (2018–2019): He then signed a one-year deal with the Turkish team Darüşşafaka, which plays in the EuroLeague.
- Oklahoma City Blue (2019–2020): He returned to the Oklahoma City Blue. In January 2020, he scored 24 points in a game.
- Hapoel Eilat (2020–2021): Markel played for Hapoel Eilat in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.
- Antwerp Giants (2021–2022): He then moved to Belgium to play for the Antwerp Giants.

Personal Life
Markel Brown's parents are Damian and Antoinette Brown. His grandmother, Jerri Mae Eggins, has been a very important person in his life. He also has two sisters, Tara and Moryia.
When Markel was younger, his family faced some difficult times. His mother passed away when he was 15. A few months later, his uncle, David Eggins, who was like a father figure to him, also passed away while trying to help others during a house fire.
