Starting on YouTube
Fischbach created his first YouTube channel on March 6, 2012. At first, he wanted to make comedy sketches. He named his channel "Markiplier," which is a mix of his name Mark and the word multiplier. He planned to play all the characters in his sketches himself.
He also loved video games and decided to make gaming videos. His first video series was a Let's Play of the horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. His channel grew quickly, gaining over 94,000 subscribers in its first year.
Because of a problem with his first channel, he had to start a new one, which is the channel he uses today. He left college in 2012 to focus on his YouTube career. In 2014, he moved to Los Angeles to be closer to more opportunities.
