Imane Anys (born May 14, 1996), known as Pokimane, is a popular online streamer, YouTuber, and influencer. She was born in Morocco and now lives in California. Pokimane is famous for her live streams on Twitch, where she plays video games and chats with her audience. Some of her most well-known games include Valorant and Fortnite. She also helped start OfflineTV, a group of online content creators.

Early Life and Gaming

Imane Anys was born in Morocco on May 14, 1996. When she was four years old, her parents moved to Quebec, Canada. She grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Discovering Online Games

In middle school, Imane started playing online games like MapleStory. She enjoyed customizing her characters and talking with other players. She later studied chemical engineering at McMaster University. However, she decided to leave university to focus on her streaming career full-time.

Becoming a Streamer

Imane created her Twitch account in June 2013. She began streaming later that year. She bought her first computer for streaming after reaching a high rank in the game League of Legends. Her name "Pokimane" is a mix of "Pokémon" and her first name, Imane.

Rise to Twitch Stardom

In 2017, Pokimane gained 450,000 followers on Twitch. This made her one of the top 100 most-followed accounts on the platform. The Shorty Awards even named her the Best Twitch Streamer of the year. They said her gameplay and comments on League of Legends helped her become very popular. She even appeared in a trailer for a new League of Legends game mode.

Besides gaming, she also hosts podcasts and shares moments from her daily life.

Twitch Partnerships and Events

Twitch has worked closely with Pokimane because of her popularity. In July 2018, she was chosen as one of 15 ambassadors for TwitchCon, a big event for streamers and fans. She also helped with Twitch Creator Camp, which teaches new streamers how to build successful channels. In March 2020, Pokimane signed a special agreement to stream only on Twitch for several years.

By December 2021, she was the 9th most-followed user on Twitch, with over 8.5 million followers. In October 2020, she played Among Us with U.S. politicians and other streamers. This was part of an effort to encourage people to vote in the 2020 United States presidential election.

Recognition and Recent Events

In 2021, Forbes magazine included Pokimane in their "30 Under 30" list for "Games." They noted she was the biggest female streamer on Twitch and a founder of OfflineTV.
