History of Marlette Township
Marlette Township was first settled in the 1850s. Early settlers came from Ontario. They were looking for tall trees and good soil for farming. The name "Marlette" comes from a family of early settlers. They carved their last name, "Marlatt," onto a log cabin. Marlette Township was officially created in 1859. It was formed from parts of Sanilac Township and Buel Township.

Germania
- Germania was started in 1873. It was founded by immigrants from the Saxony area of Germany. These new residents first came to work as miners. However, they ended up creating a farming community instead. Germania had its own post office from 1878 until 1911.
