Marlin Tyrell Jackson (born June 30, 1983) is an American former football player. He played in the National Football League (NFL). Marlin was a talented player for the Michigan Wolverines in college. He was even named an All-American twice! The Indianapolis Colts chose him in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft. Marlin helped the Colts win Super Bowl XLI. He finished his football career playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Early Life and High School Football

Marlin Jackson was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania. He went to Sharon High School. There, he played for the Sharon Tigers high school football team. Marlin was an amazing player in high school. He made 281 tackles and had 18 interceptions. Four of his interceptions were returned for touchdowns!

On offense, he also ran for 330 yards. He caught 57 passes for over 1,000 yards. He scored 18 touchdowns as a receiver. Marlin earned many honors, including being named the Pennsylvania high school player of the year. He was also chosen for the USA Today All-American team. He played in the very first U.S. Army All-American Bowl game in 2000.

College Football Career

Marlin went to the University of Michigan. He played for the Michigan Wolverines football team from 2001 to 2004. His coach was Lloyd Carr. In 2002, he was named a first-team All-American. This was a big achievement for him.

In 2004, Marlin was a senior and a team captain. He was chosen for the first-team All-Big Ten. He was also a consensus first-team All-American. This means many different groups agreed he was one of the best players.

Marlin became one of Michigan's top players for breaking up passes. During his last year, opposing teams rarely threw the ball his way. They knew he was great at stopping passes and getting interceptions.

Professional Football Career

Marlin Jackson was picked by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2005 NFL Draft. He was the 29th player chosen overall.

Playing for the Indianapolis Colts

As a rookie in 2005, Marlin had 52 tackles and one interception. He played in 15 games, often in situations where teams passed a lot. In his second season, he had 82 tackles and another interception. He even started as a safety when another player was hurt. His best game was against the Houston Texans, where he made 14 tackles.

On January 21, 2007, Marlin made a game-winning play. He intercepted a pass from New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. This happened with only 18 seconds left in the AFC Championship Game. His interception sealed the Colts' 38–34 victory. This win sent the Colts to Super Bowl XLI, which they later won!

In October 2008, Marlin hurt his knee during practice. He needed surgery and missed the rest of that season. He worked hard to recover from his injury. On March 5, 2010, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.

Time with the Philadelphia Eagles

On March 10, 2010, Marlin signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He changed his position from cornerback to free safety with the Eagles.

Unfortunately, Marlin suffered another injury. He tore his right Achilles tendon during a practice in June. He was placed on the injured reserve list. This meant he could not play for the season. The Eagles released him on September 3, 2011.
