Caila Marsai Martin (born August 14, 2004) is a talented American actress and producer. She is widely known for playing Diane Johnson in the TV show Black-ish (2014–2022).

In 2019, Marsai starred in the comedy movie Little. She also helped produce this film, making her the youngest person ever to produce a major studio movie! That same year, Time magazine recognized her as one of the "Time 100 Next" rising stars. In 2022, she produced and acted in the sports comedy film Fantasy Football.

Early Life and First Steps in Acting

Marsai Martin was born in Plano, Texas. Her parents are Carol and Joshua Martin. Her acting journey began after a photo shoot. The photographer offered her parents a discount if her dad sent the pictures to talent agencies.

They sent the photos to four agencies, and one quickly signed her! When she was five, Marsai got her first national TV commercial for Choice Hotel. In 2013, her family moved to Los Angeles so she could follow her dream of acting.

Amazing Career Highlights

In 2014, Marsai was cast as Diane Johnson in the ABC sitcom Black-ish. She played the daughter of Andre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow Johnson (Tracee Ellis Ross). This role was a big success for her. She won many awards and nominations, including three NAACP Image Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

In 2016, Marsai started her film career. She played the main role in the Amazon Studios movie An American Girl Story – Melody 1963: Love Has to Win. This film was set in Detroit during the Civil Rights Movement. That same year, she lent her voice to the movie Nina, which was about the life of artist Nina Simone.

In 2019, Marsai starred in her first big studio movie, the comedy Little. She was only 13 years old when she became an executive producer for this film. This made her the youngest person ever to produce a movie. She was also the youngest African-American producer.

In February 2019, Marsai's company, Genius Productions, signed a special deal with Universal Pictures. This deal meant her company would create movies for Universal. Marsai is the youngest person to get such a deal with any major studio! Her first movie as part of this deal is StepMonster, a comedy about a girl adjusting to a new stepmother.

Marsai has also used her voice talents in animated films. She voiced Liberty in PAW Patrol: The Movie (2021) and its sequel PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie (2023). In 2022, she starred in and produced the movie Fantasy Football. In 2023, she was an executive producer for Saturdays, a comedy TV series for Disney Channel.

In 2024, Marsai appeared on The Masked Singer as "Woodpecker."
