Regina Lee Hall (born December 12, 1970) is an American actress. She is famous for playing Brenda Meeks in the comedy-horror Scary Movie films. Her acting has won many awards.
In 2018, she won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie Support the Girls. She was the first African American actress to win this award.

Early Life and Education
Regina Hall was born in Washington, D.C. Her father, Odie Hall, was a contractor and electrician, and her mother, Ruby, was a teacher. After high school, Regina went to Fordham University in New York. In 1992, she earned a bachelor's degree in English.
Later, she studied at New York University to get a master's degree in journalism, which she completed in 1997. Hall loved learning and once said, "I loved being a student. I could've gone to school until I was 75 years old as long as somebody would've paid my rent."
Hall's life changed when her father passed away during her first semester of graduate school. This sad event made her think about what she truly wanted to do. She decided to pursue a career in entertainment after finishing her degree.
Acting Career
Early Roles
In 1997, at age 26, Hall started her career by appearing in a TV commercial. She also had small roles in TV shows like Loving and New York Undercover.
Her first movie was The Best Man in 1999. People loved her performance as the character Candy. This role helped her get more movie offers and she decided to move to Los Angeles to focus on her acting career.
Rise to Fame
Hall became very well-known for playing Brenda Meeks in the hit comedy Scary Movie in 2000. She returned for the sequels Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, and Scary Movie 4. The role of the funny and loud Brenda is one of her most famous.
From 2001 to 2002, she played the lawyer Coretta Lipp in the TV drama Ally McBeal. She also starred in movies like Paid in Full, Malibu's Most Wanted, and King's Ransom.
Major Film Successes
In 2012, Hall starred in the romantic comedy Think Like a Man, which was based on a book by Steve Harvey. She returned for the sequel, The Best Man Holiday, in 2013.
She co-starred with Kevin Hart in the 2014 comedy About Last Night. Critics said they were the best part of the movie because they were so funny together. She worked with Hart again in Think Like a Man Too.
In 2017, Hall was part of the cast of Girls Trip, a very successful comedy. The next year, she starred in the drama The Hate U Give.
Awards and Recognition
For her leading role in the 2018 film Support the Girls, Hall received amazing reviews from critics. She won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress, a major honor.
In 2019, she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that gives out the Oscar awards. That same year, she hosted the BET Awards. In 2022, she co-hosted the 94th Academy Awards with Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.
Hall has also started her own production company to create new TV shows and movies.
Personal Life
Around 2004, Hall's mother was diagnosed with scleroderma, a rare disease. Hall spends time volunteering to help senior citizens and raises awareness about the illness. She has worked with the Scleroderma Research Foundation to help find a cure.
When she was 14, Hall thought about becoming a Catholic nun. She considered it again when she was 40, but she was just over the age limit of 39 to join.
In 2019, Hall received an honorary doctorate degree from Dillard University. In May 2025, she also received an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Fordham University, where she had studied.
