Regina Lee Hall (born December 12, 1970) is an American actress. She became well-known for her role as Brenda Meeks in the funny horror Scary Movie film series (2000–2006).
She has also appeared in many TV shows like Ally McBeal (2001–2002), Law & Order: LA (2010–2011), and Black Monday (2019–2021). Her movies include The Best Man (1999), Girls Trip (2017), and The Hate U Give (2018).
Regina Hall received great praise for her role in the comedy film Support the Girls (2018). She even made history by becoming the first African American actress to win the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress.

Early Life and Education
Regina Hall was born in Washington, D.C.. Her father, Odie Hall, was a contractor and electrician, and her mother, Ruby, was a teacher.
After finishing Immaculata College High School, Regina went to Fordham University in the Bronx. She earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1992. Later, she studied at New York University and received a master's degree in journalism in 1997.
Regina loved being a student. She once said she could have stayed in school forever if someone paid her rent! She originally wanted to be a writer or journalist. However, during her first semester of graduate school, her father passed away suddenly. This sad event made her think about what she truly wanted to do in life. She knew her father would want her to finish school, which she did.
After this, she started her career in entertainment. She first appeared on a music track in 1996.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting in TV and Film
In 1997, Regina Hall appeared in her first TV commercial at age 26. She began her TV acting with a role on the soap opera Loving. She also had guest roles on the police drama New York Undercover.
Her first movie was The Best Man in 1999, where she played Candy Sparks. This role was very important for her career. She met actress Sanaa Lathan on set, and they later worked together on Love and Basketball, her second film. This movie helped her become a rising star in the film industry.
Becoming a Comedy Star
Regina Hall became even more famous for her role as Brenda Meeks in the comedy-horror spoof Scary Movie. She appeared in four films in the series: Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, and Scary Movie 4. These movies are some of her most well-known roles.
In 2001, she joined the TV show Ally McBeal as Coretta Lipp. Her role started small but became a main character in the show's fifth season. She also starred in the action-drama Paid in Full in 2002.
Since then, she has had leading roles in films like Malibu's Most Wanted, King's Ransom, and The Honeymooners.
Later Film and TV Roles
Regina Hall appeared in the film Law Abiding Citizen in 2009. From 2010 to 2011, she played Deputy District Attorney Evelyn Price on Law & Order: LA.
In 2012, she starred as Candace Hall in Steve Harvey's romantic comedy Think Like a Man. She returned for the sequel, The Best Man Holiday, in 2013. She felt the characters had grown a lot since the first movie, which came out 14 years earlier.
In 2014, Regina Hall co-starred with Kevin Hart in the film About Last Night. Many people thought their chemistry was a highlight of the movie. Critics praised them for having the funniest lines. Both Regina and Kevin said they wanted to work together on more projects.
She also reprised her role as Candace Hall in Think Like a Man Too. In 2015, she had a main role in People Place Things. In 2016, she was in Barbershop: The Next Cut with Ice Cube and Common.
In 2017, Regina Hall co-starred in the hit comedy film Girls Trip. This movie was very successful and received good reviews. In 2018, she was part of the cast of the drama film The Hate U Give, based on the popular novel.
She played the lead role in Support the Girls, which earned her much praise and awards, including the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress. She was also invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2019, Regina Hall hosted the BET Awards.
In 2022, she co-hosted the 94th Academy Awards with Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes.
Personal Life and Advocacy
Around 2004, Regina Hall's mother was diagnosed with scleroderma. This is a rare autoimmune disease that affects the skin and internal organs.
When she is not acting, Regina volunteers to help senior citizens at a care home in Sherman Oaks, California. She also works to raise public awareness about scleroderma. She learned about the disease through actress Dana Delany and comedian Bob Saget, whose sister had passed away from it. Regina supports the Scleroderma Research Foundation.
In 2014, she became an ambassador for Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds perfume.
