Marshall Terrace is a friendly neighborhood located in the Northeast part of Minneapolis, Minnesota. A neighborhood is a smaller area within a city where people live and work. Marshall Terrace is one of ten neighborhoods that make up Ward 1 in Minneapolis. A "ward" is like a district, and each ward has a representative on the Minneapolis City Council. Currently, Elliott Payne is the Council Member for this area.

Where is Marshall Terrace?

Marshall Terrace is bordered by some important streets and a famous river. To the north, you'll find Saint Anthony Parkway. On the east side are 4th Street and University Avenue. Lowry Avenue forms the southern border, and the mighty Mississippi River runs along its western edge.

This neighborhood was named after William Rainey Marshall, who was a governor of Minnesota a long time ago.

What is Marshall Terrace Like?

A big part of Marshall Terrace is used for businesses and factories. These industries and important utilities are located near the Mississippi River on the west side. You can also see railroad tracks running along the eastern part of the neighborhood.

Most of the homes in Marshall Terrace were built in the early 1900s. They were created to provide places for people working in the nearby industries to live. The houses are mostly smaller, single-family homes, and they are grouped together in the middle of the neighborhood.

Fun Places to Visit

Marshall Terrace has two nice parks right along the Mississippi River. These are Marshall Terrace Park and Marshall Terrace Gardens. They are great spots to enjoy nature and the river views.

The Grand Rounds Scenic Byway also runs along St. Anthony Parkway, which is on the northern border of the neighborhood. This byway is a famous route for biking, walking, and scenic drives around Minneapolis.

Getting Around Marshall Terrace

It's easy to get around Marshall Terrace using public transportation. Metro Transit offers bus routes 11 and 32 that serve the neighborhood. Route 11 travels along 2nd Street NE and Grand Street NE, while route 32 uses Lowry Avenue.

If you enjoy biking, you'll be happy to know that St. Anthony Parkway and parts of University Avenue have special bike paths. These paths are separated from car traffic, making it safer and more fun to ride your bike.
