Marta Arce Payno, born on July 27, 1977, is a talented Spanish judo athlete. She has a visual impairment and competes in the B3 classification. Marta has proudly represented Spain in four Summer Paralympic Games: 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2024. During these games, she has won two silver medals and two bronze medals, showing her amazing skill and dedication.

About Marta Arce

Marta was born in Valladolid, Spain. She has a condition called albinism, which caused her to gradually lose her eyesight until she became completely blind. Despite this, Marta is a very accomplished person. She can speak four different languages: Spanish, English, Italian, and Japanese. Marta is also a mother; her child was born in 2009. Outside of judo, she works as a physical therapist at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Marta's Judo Journey

Marta Arce is a judo competitor in the B3 classification, which means she has a visual impairment. Her journey in judo began when she moved to Madrid for university. Her brother, who was already involved in the sport, inspired her to try it. From that moment on, Marta trained almost every day, showing incredible commitment to judo.

Early Competitions and Medals

Marta's first big success in judo was at the IPC European Judo Championships held in Città di Castello. There, she won a gold medal, marking an exciting start to her international career. She also competed in the European Championships in Italy in 1999. In 2001, she took part in a World Cup event in Rio de Janeiro.

Paralympic Achievements

Marta made her Paralympic debut at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. This was a special event because it was the first time women's judo was included in the Paralympic program. Marta performed brilliantly and won a silver medal.

Four years later, at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, she once again showed her strength. She repeated her previous success by winning another silver medal.

In October 2011, Marta competed in a regional Spanish national judo event for visually impaired athletes in Guadalajara. The following year, she competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. There, she earned a bronze medal. On her way to the bronze, she competed against athletes like Swedish Nicolina Perheim and Cuban Dalidaivis Rodríguez Clark. Her bronze medal was the second one won by Spain in judo at the London Games, coming just minutes after her teammate Maria Monica Merenciano also won bronze.

Most recently, Marta competed at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France, where she added another bronze medal to her collection.
