Martell Mallett (born May 13, 1986) is a former professional Canadian football player. He played as a running back, which is a player who carries the ball. Martell was signed by the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2009. He was a "street free agent," meaning he wasn't drafted but was signed by a team.

Before playing professionally, he played college football at Arkansas at Pine Bluff. During his career, Martell also played for the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He married his longtime girlfriend, Jade, in 2017, and they have a son.

Playing Professional Football

Martell Mallett had an exciting career playing football for several teams. He showed great skill and determination throughout his time on the field.

Time with the BC Lions

Martell started his professional journey with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL). On September 4, 2009, he had an amazing game against the Montreal Alouettes. In that game, he ran for 213 yards, which was a new record for the team!

During the entire 2009 season, he rushed for a total of 1,240 yards. His excellent performance earned him a spot as a Western All-Star. On November 26, 2009, Martell was recognized as the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie of the Year. This award goes to the best new player in the league.

Playing for the Philadelphia Eagles

After his success in Canada, Martell signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL) on January 19, 2010. He was later released by the team on July 31, 2010, but then re-signed on August 1.

He was released again on September 3 but joined the team's practice squad two days later. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but don't play in games unless they are moved to the main roster. He was released from the practice squad on September 21. Martell later rejoined the Eagles' practice squad on January 5, 2011, but his contract ended after that season.

Time with the Cleveland Browns

Martell also spent some time with the Cleveland Browns. He was signed to their practice squad on September 28, 2010. He stayed with the Browns for a couple of months before being released on November 23, 2010.

Joining the New York Giants

On January 11, 2011, Martell signed a contract with the New York Giants. However, on August 1, he was waived due to an injury. After clearing waivers, he was placed on injured reserve. This means he was still part of the team but couldn't play because of his injury. He was released from injured reserve on August 25 after reaching an agreement.

Return to the CFL with Hamilton

Martell returned to the CFL and signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on January 30, 2012. Unfortunately, during training camp on June 6, 2012, he suffered a serious injury, tearing his Achilles tendon. This injury meant he could not play during the entire 2012 season. The Tiger-Cats released him on May 24, 2013.

Final Season with Calgary Stampeders

Martell signed with the Calgary Stampeders on February 9, 2014. On August 1, 2014, he played his first professional game in over four years. In that game, he rushed for over 100 yards against his former team, the BC Lions. This was a great comeback for him after his injury.
