Martin Doherty's Music Journey

Martin Doherty started his music career early. He was the leader of a rock band called Julia Thirteen, which formed in 1999 and played together until 2006.

Forming Chvrches

In 2004, Martin met Iain Cook, who would later become his bandmate in Chvrches. They became friends while studying at the University of Strathclyde. In 2006, Iain helped record Julia Thirteen's first collection of songs, called an EP. Then, in 2007, Martin joined Iain's band, Aereogramme.

Later, Martin and Iain, along with singer Lauren Mayberry, decided to form a new band called Chvrches. This band quickly became very popular for its unique electronic pop sound.

Martin's Role in Chvrches

Martin is a key part of Chvrches. On their first album, The Bones of What You Believe, he sang lead vocals on songs like "Under the Tide" and "You Caught the Light". He even played bass guitar on "You Caught the Light".

On Chvrches' second album, Every Open Eye, Martin again sang lead on songs such as "High Enough to Carry You Over" and "Follow You". "Follow You" was a special bonus track on some versions of the album. Martin often performs "High Enough to Carry You Over" live during concerts.

Martin's father is also a Catholic Deacon and a Religious Education teacher. Martin is a big fan of the football club Celtic. He currently lives in LA.
