The Chef's Journey

Martín Berasategui started his cooking journey very young. When he was just 14 years old, he began working in his parents' restaurant, called Bodegón Alejandro.

Early Training and First Star

When Martín first started cooking, there were no restaurants with Michelin stars in the Basque Country. At 17, he traveled to France to learn how to be a pastry chef. This helped him learn many new cooking skills. By the time he was 20, he took over his parents' restaurant. He worked very hard and earned his first Michelin star there when he was 25.

Opening His Own Restaurant

In 1993, Martín Berasategui opened his own restaurant. It was named after him and was located in Lasarte-Oria, near San Sebastián. This restaurant quickly became very famous. In 2001, it received its third Michelin star. This is a very high honor for a restaurant.

Earning More Michelin Stars

Martín Berasategui is known for having more Michelin stars than any other Spanish chef. Besides the three stars at his main restaurant, he has earned many more. He has three stars for his Restaurante Lasarte in Barcelona. He also has two stars for his restaurant M.B. in Tenerife, which is a large island in the Canary Islands.

His restaurant M.B. earned its first Michelin star in 2010. Later, he received another Michelin star for Oria. This restaurant is also in Barcelona and is connected to Lasarte. Besides these award-winning restaurants, he owns six more around the world. These include two in the Dominican Republic and one in Mexico.
