The Erigeron nauseosus is a small flowering plant from North America. It belongs to the daisy family and is often called Marysvale fleabane. You can find this plant growing in the western parts of the United States, especially in northern Utah and Nevada.

What is Marysvale Fleabane?

Marysvale fleabane is a type of plant that lives for more than two years, which means it's a perennial herb. It's quite small, usually growing to be no more than 4 centimeters (about 1.6 inches) tall. That's shorter than your finger!

Plant Features

This little plant has a special root called a taproot, which grows straight down into the soil. Both its leaves and its stem are covered with stiff hairs, making them feel a bit rough.

Each stem of the Marysvale fleabane usually has just one flower head. This flower head is made up of two kinds of tiny flowers:

  • Ray florets: These are the petal-like parts you see on the outside. Marysvale fleabane can have up to 35 of these, and they are usually blue or purple.
  • Disc florets: These are the many small flowers packed together in the center of the flower head. For this plant, they are bright yellow.

Where Does It Grow?

You can find Marysvale fleabane in specific places. It likes to grow on high ridges, rocky slopes, and areas where rocks stick out from the ground. These tough spots are where it feels right at home!

How It Got Its Name

The "Marysvale" part of the plant's common name comes from a community in Marysvale, Utah. This is the place where the very first example of this plant, called the "type specimen," was found and collected by scientists.
