The Marysville Opera House is a cool old building in Marysville, Washington. It was built way back in 1911. This building has been used for many different things, like shows and meetings.

In 1982, it became a part of the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a very important building because of its history. The opera house can hold about 400 people inside.

History of the Opera House

Before the current opera house, there was a simpler building. It was a meeting place built in 1898. A group called the Independent Order of Oddfellows used it. This first wooden building sadly burned down in 1910. After the fire, people decided to build a new, stronger building.

The new Marysville Opera House was built the very next year. A local builder named A.E. Heider constructed it. It cost about $20,000 at that time. The first stone was placed on March 26, 1911. The whole building was finished by August 1911.

This new building was made to grow with the city. It was meant for social events and traveling shows. It was one of the first buildings in Snohomish County, Washington to use poured concrete. Most buildings back then were made of wood or bricks.

The Oddfellows group in Marysville closed down in 1966. After that, the opera house became many different things! It was a place for roller skating and even a shooting range. It also served as a furniture store and a disco nightclub.

In 1982, the Marysville Fine Arts Committee helped put the building on the National Register of Historic Places. They hoped to fix it up, but they couldn't raise enough money. The building was empty and needed a lot of work.

In 1998, the city of Marysville started renting the opera house. The owners, the Williams family, fixed the building. It had a leaky roof and needed lots of repairs. The opera house finally reopened in March 2001. Now, the city can rent it out for parties and events.

In 2016, the building got another makeover. It was repainted and got new LED lighting. New artwork was also added. In 2017, the opera house hosted 138 events! The city government bought the building in January 2018. They paid $1.44 million for it. The city plans to keep hosting events and make the area around the riverfront even better.
