Marziyya Yusuf qizi Davudova, also known as Marziya Davudova, was a famous actress from the Soviet Union and Azerbaijan. She was born on November 25, 1901, and passed away on January 6, 1962.

Marziyya Davudova was born in Astrakhan, Russia. She went to the Jamiyyat-i Kheyriyya Islamiyya school. In 1917, she started her acting journey at the local Tatar Drama Theatre.

In 1918, a famous Azerbaijani actor named Huseyn Arablinski visited Astrakhan. He saw Marziyya act and was very impressed. After watching her perform, Arablinski invited her to become an actress in Baku.

In 1920, Marziyya moved to Azerbaijan. She began acting at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre. Many of her early roles showed strong and independent women. This was a popular theme in plays during that time. Some of these plays included Sevil by Jafar Jabbarly, Hayat by Mirza Ibrahimov, and Lyubov Yarovaya by Konstantin Trenyov.

In 1949, Marziyya Davudova received a very important award. She was named People's Artist of the USSR. This award recognized her great talent and contributions to acting.

Throughout her career, she also acted in many films. Some of her movies were Bakhtiyar, Haji Gara, and Koroghlu. Her last role was in a play called Aphrodite's Island in 1961. She played the Mother in that performance.

Personal life and family

Marziyya Davudova was the partner of actor and director Abbas Mirza Sharifzadeh. He passed away during a difficult time. Marziyya was also the mother of actress Firangiz Sharifova. Her great-grandson is Eldar Gasimov, who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Marziyya Davudova died in Baku when she was 60 years old.
