María Rivas's Musical Journey
María Rivas was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Her mother was from Spain, and her father was Venezuelan. She started singing as a hobby and learned a lot from other musicians in Venezuela and Latin America.
In 1983, María began singing professionally in local night clubs. Soon after, she moved to Aruba. There, she performed in a jazz show called Sentimental Journey Through Jazz for two and a half years. She often sang songs in the style of famous singers like Ella Fitzgerald.
María Rivas also cared deeply about the environment. She became a strong voice in the region's environmental movement. Her songs often had messages about protecting nature.
In 2005, María went back to Aruba to be part of a show called "God Save The Queen." This show was a tribute to the famous rock band Queen.
From 2006 onwards, María spent about four months each year in Tokyo, Japan. People there loved her performances of Brazilian, Latin, and Classic American Jazz. She even shared the stage with a local jazz group called the Indigo Trio in Roppongi.
María Rivas recorded eleven albums as a solo artist. Her last CD, MOTIVOS, came out in 2018. It was even nominated for a Latin Grammy Award! She performed live in many countries, including Colombia, Brazil, Italy, Spain, the United States, and many more.
In 2008, María celebrated 25 years since she started her music career. She held special concerts to honor the beloved Maestro Aldemaro Romero, who had passed away in 2007. She performed his music and arrangements. Later, in 2012–2013, María celebrated her 30th anniversary as a singer, composer, and recording artist.
