María del Carmen Herrera Gomez, known as Carmen Herrera, is a talented judo athlete from Spain. She was born on September 26, 1974, in Málaga. Carmen is famous for her amazing achievements in Paralympic judo.

About Carmen

Carmen Herrera has a visual impairment. This means she cannot see as clearly as most people. She is classified as a B3 sportsperson. This classification helps make sure athletes compete fairly.

In December 2013, Carmen attended an important event. It was for a Spanish insurance company that started sponsoring the Spanish Paralympic Committee. This sponsorship helps fund Plan ADOP. This plan supports top Spanish athletes with disabilities. Carmen wanted to show her support for this kind of help.

Her Judo Career

Carmen Herrera is a very successful judoka. She competed in judo at three different Paralympic Games. These were the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, and the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London.

Paralympic Gold Medals

Carmen won a gold medal in the Up to 70 kg women's group at all three Paralympic Games she attended. This means she won gold in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Winning three gold medals in a row is a huge achievement.

In 2013, she worked hard to qualify for the 2016 Summer Paralympics. However, she did not qualify for those Games.

Other Competitions

Carmen also competed in other important judo events. In October 2011, she took part in a regional Spanish national vision impaired judo event. This competition was held in Guadalajara.

In November 2013, she competed again in Guadalajara. This time it was at the Open Judo Tournament. She competed in the women's less than 70 kilos group.

Carmen Herrera is one of only two female Paralympic judokas to win three gold medals in para judo. This makes her a true legend in the sport.
