Maschwanden is a small village in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Zürich. This village is part of the Affoltern district. It sits on the east bank of the Reuss River.

History of Maschwanden
Maschwanden has a long history. It was first mentioned in old documents in 1189. At that time, a powerful lord called the Baron of Eschenbach owned a castle and the village. The castle was near where the village is today.
However, in 1308, Walter von Eschenbach was involved in the killing of King Albert I of Germany. This happened near Windisch. Because of this event, the castle and village were destroyed in 1309. They were never rebuilt. The old castle ruins were on a hill. Over time, the hill was removed in the 1800s and 1900s.
Geography of Maschwanden
Maschwanden covers an area of about 4.7 square kilometers. A large part of this land, about 61.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 24.1% of the area.
About 8.3% of the land has buildings or roads on it. The remaining 6% is made up of rivers or other natural areas. The village is located on the eastern side of the Reuss River. It is also near where the Lorze River flows into the Reuss.
